October 6, 2025 ~ Lucy Ann Lance is joined by Michigan State Representative Jamie Thompson to discuss the new state budget. Michigan lawmakers passed a nearly $81 billion state budget, a compromise less than the Governor’s proposal but more than House Republicans’ plan. A new 25% wholesale marijuana tax was key to funding, alongside $2 billion for local roads and $1.1 billion in government spending cuts, addressing “phantom employees” and unused office space. The budget also secured record per-pupil funding, universal free school meals, and eliminated taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security for seniors.
