Pittsfield Township has filed a lawsuit against the city of Ann Arbor to stop the proposed runway expansion at the Ann Arbor Airport, which is located within Pittsfield but owned by Ann Arbor. The expansion, approved by the FAA and Michigan Department of Transportation after an environmental assessment, would extend the runway by more than two football fields, bringing it closer to residential areas. Local residents and a citizens group have opposed the plan since 2009, citing safety issues and a potential tenfold increase in jet traffic as primary concerns.
