The Michigan Movie Critics Guild has announced its winners for the best films of 2024. “Anora” won Best Picture, aligning with the L.A. Film Critics’ choice, while New York Film Critics favored “The Brutalist.” Both films are seen as ambitious indie projects appealing to different Academy voters. There’s speculation about “Wicked,” a major studio film, possibly winning an Oscar for Best Picture, but it may only gain recognition after “Wicked Part II,” similar to the “Lord of the Rings” scenario.
